Officers of information-analytical support and current planning departments of state border protection bodies took a course on risk analysis at the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The ten-day training course for border analysts was designed to broaden officers' knowledge of approaches and methods for analyzing, predicting and making recommendations on how to plan the operational and service activities of a border guard agency.
The course followed a modular training system based on the SIRAM 2.0 model and included the following modules – «Risk Analysis/Vulnerability Assessment», «Risk Profiling», «Risk Analysis and Criminal Analysis». Officers completed coursework to assess risks at the border guard detachment site for the selected threat.
During the development of the course program, modern European practices, as well as Ukrainian experience were taken into account, because in modern conditions the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as a special law enforcement agency, gets new requirements to ensure the functions of the state border, reducing the vulnerability of major threats and sustainability of functioning in the system of integrated border management. In this regard, the role of information and analytical support in the system of decision support for operational and service activities is increasing, which requires improving the quality of training of officers of units of information and analytical support and current planning of state border protection bodies.
It should be added that such specialized courses for officers-analysts at the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service have been held for more than 10 years and are a broad platform for professional support of analytical activities not only in the border guard agency, but also for other subjects of integrated border management.
